She broke down the walls of the music business as a singer, performer and designer. She was at once an American-Mexican traditional singer who brought together the two genres with a unique approach. She also provided excellent Tejano music to a mass audience. Like many times with a bright and genial star passes away in a hurry and unexpectedly, it has thrown her profile into a quagmire. Many mourned all of her potential, which was untapped. Fans have worked harder through the years to ensure that her legacy is kept alive. The tragic shooting death of Selena triggered a response in the Latino Community that was comparable as the reaction to deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena is a hugely popular Latino musician throughout North America, Selena's music has touched many lives across cultures. Selena was an asexual and flamboyant stage performer who was sometimes known as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an outstanding role model, as she actively participated in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
